Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to compromise their convictions and bow to the king’s gold statue. Furious, the king threatened to cast them into a fiery furnace, but the three told the king God would deliver them. “And even if he doesn’t,” they said, “We will not bow.” When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the furnace, Jesus appeared with them in the fire. The three came out of the fire without event the scent of smoke on them. God is with you, even in the fire. He will bring you out, and you will not smell like or look like you went through what you went through.

Instead of comforting Job in his time of intense grief, Job’s three friends accused him of sinning and doing evil. God rebuked Job’s friends, and they went to Job, so he could pray for them. After Job prayed for his friends and forgave them, God restored everything he lost. God gave Job twice as much as he had before. That was the final test Job had to pass before God blessed him. And God is asking you to let go of bitterness. This is the one thing holding up your blessings. Let go of the past, and embrace all God has in store for you.

How can we be strong when our enemies are testing us, and we feel like taking matters into our own hands? Jesus gave us the answer in Matthew 26. He told his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane to watch and pray, so they would not give into temptation. Do not respond to your enemies in the flesh. You will just make matters worse. Ask God for strength to forgive and pray.

Daniel’s enemies were jealous of his success, so they tricked the king and had Daniel thrown in the lions’ den. But God sent his angel to protect Daniel and shut the lions’ mouths. God rewarded Daniel’s faithfulness, and Daniel came out of the lions’ den without a single scratch. In the end, the king threw Daniel’s enemies into the den, and the lions devoured them before they reached the bottom of the pit.

For forty days, Goliath threatened the children of Israel, and they ran and hid in terror. But the Spirit of God came upon David, and he took a stand against the enemy. Stop running from the enemy. God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power (2 Timothy 1:7). David dared to face the giant, and he took Goliath’s sword and defeated him with it. God literally backfired the enemy’s plans on his own head.

Do not seek revenge on your enemies. The devil is tempting you to step out of God’s will and do something you will later regret. God will judge those who are mistreating you. He will cause your enemies to fall into the traps they have set for you. Be patient and trust God. The weapon may be formed against you, but it will not prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
